The service, called Groupon Payments, lets Groupon’s merchant partners download a free app or update their existing Groupon Merchant app to get what Groupon touts as the lowest-cost, fastest-reimbursement option in paying “swipe fees” that credit cards charge. Groupon is charging MasterCard, Visa and Discover swipes at a 1.8 percent rate plus 15 cents for each transaction done by a Groupon merchant. American Express will be 3 percent plus 15 cents.

Groupon will charge a higher rate of 2.2 percent plus the 15 percent fee in a pilot program for merchants who don’t run Groupon deals.

In comparison, Square charges 2.75 percent per swipe, or $275 per month. PayPal charges 2.7 percent.

Groupon’s stock price soared on the news, jumping 13.86 percent, or 65 cents, to close Wednesday at $5.34 a share.

Groupon Payments is the latest of the daily deals company’s efforts to offer its merchant partners a platform of services such as calendar scheduling and Groupon-deals and return-on-investment tracking.

Groupon says merchants can use its payments service to add tips and taxes and to email customer receipts.

Groupon is able to negotiate the lower swipe-fee rates because of its size and its ability to offer the service to existing merchant partners rather than pay extra sales and marketing expenses to attract the merchants’ business, said Sean Harper, 32, who started FeeFighters two years ago after he got frustrated with his own credit-card processor.

Harper is now Groupon’s director of product management-payments.

“It’s tough for a small merchant to deal with banks and credit-card companies because their fees are expensive, complicated and sometimes hidden; the customer service isn’t good, and it’s very difficult to switch to a different processor,” said Harper, who struggled with the fees when he ran his first company, TSS Radio, an online satellite-radio parts seller in the West Loop.

He said Groupon Payments will ensure that merchants reach customer service if they need help.

Three of the largest payment processing companies did not respond to a request for comment.

Groupon sends merchants either a free credit-card reader that attaches to an iPhone and to an iPod Touch, or a $100 reader built into an iPhone case.

Sameet Sinha, senior analyst at B. Riley & Co., said the new offer is “closing the loop” on Groupon’s daily deals by sending back to Groupon valuable customer data, which can be used to gain insights for future promotions and tailoring customers’ deals.

The customer paying with his or her credit or debit card signs his name on the mobile-device screen with his or her finger.

Groupon is evolving into new businesses as analysts question the company’s ability to keep growing in a maturing, competitive industry with high marketing costs. Groupon’s stock is trading at 73.3 percent below its public-offering price.

Zimbabwe and Mozambique both made their bid to qualify for the 2014 world cup difficult with a 0-0 draw in Maputo.
Mozambique failed to make up for their 2-0 defeat by Egypt after being held to a goalless draw by Zimbabwe on Sunday in Group G of World Cup qualifiers.

The draw dented both sides’ hopes of qualifying for the next round. Zimbabwe are currently at third place with a solitary point, ahead of bottom side Mozambique on goal difference.

Only group winners will advance to the final round, where two-legged ties will be held to determine Africa’s five representatives at 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil.
Egypt now with 6 points after beating second placed guinea by 3-2 is now well poised 3 points clear to take the next round spot. Only group winners qualify for the next round.

These are reports coming out of Tripoli. The NTC military chief confirmed reports of his death in a statement to Reuters today.
Reports indicated that Gadhafi was captured by the NTC rebels early this morning. He resisted arrest and during that time, gunfire ensued. Gaddaffi was shot in the head and legs. Gadhafi is reported to have died on the way to hospital in an ambulance due to excessive loss of blood.

If true, the death of Muammar Gadhafi ushers a new era for Libya and a rethink of a unity government proposed by the African union. A peaceful transition to democracy however may require more consultation with the Libyan people and will also depend on the NTC’s approach in running affairs in areas once thought of as Gadhafi strongholds.

ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe indicated that the ANC has a lot to learn from the mistakes of ZANU PF in the land reform process. Speaking at a press conference in Harare at the airport just before his departure on Friday, Mantashe said his visit to Zimbabwe was a learning experience and was not in a position to tell ZANU PF what to do. He however commended the fact that extension officers were attached to the farmers and called on the government to give more support to the ordinary farmers (A1) as they graduated from being subsistence farmers to commercial farmers.

“We have a lot to learn from Zimbabwe’s experience, and we are now at apoint where we now know things to do and those not to do,” he said just coming short of telling ZANU PF where they went wrong.
Mantashe was leading a four member delegation on a two day party to party visit where he shared notes and experiences with his Zanu PF counterparts.

The ZANU PF chaotic land reform was initiated in 2000 soon after the formation of MDC by the working class who among other things demanded an accelerated redistribution of land. However ZANU PF emabrked on a lawless land grab that plunged the country into an economic nightmare from which it is struggling to get out of.

Rejuvenated Dynamos have received a major boost going into the Premiership title’s final run-down after the club secured the services of long time target Peter Ngwenya.

The Harare giants on Tuesday confirmed they had finally tied down the former Njube Sundowns and Lengthens striker, who has had stints in Botswana and Namibia.

“He is now a Dynamos player. We have sorted all his papers out with the Namibian club he was playing for last season. We have also cleared his papers with the Premier Soccer League. He will be up for selection in our next match against Zimbabwe Saints next week,” confirmed Dynamos secretary-general Nyika Chifamba

Ngwenya became a free agent in June after his club Eleven Arrows released him from his contract.

He has been training with Dynamos ever since.

However, the nomadic striker sneaked out of the country for trials with a number of South African clubs, but reportedly failed to make the grade prompting him to come back home.

The signing of Ngwenya will add extra width to the Dynamos attack, which has already been boosted by the arrival of Cuthbert Malajila last month.

Dynamos have been enjoying a good run of form since Callisto Pasuwa took over from Lloyd Mutasa as club coach, an appointment that coincided with the Malajila’s arrival.

They have won three games on the trot to take their points tally to 39, just three shy of joint leaders Motor Action and FC Platinum, with eight rounds of games left to play.

Zimbabwe has given Libya’s ambassador to Harare 72 hours to leave the country.
Zimbabwe’s Foreign Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi said Tuesday the decision was made after the Libyan embassy declared its allegiance to Libya’s Transitional National Council.
Last week during a protest, Ambassador and embassy staff members burned the flag used by Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi. They then raised the flag being used by the anti-Gadhafi TNC.
Mumbengegwi told reporters Zimbabwe does not recognize the TNC as Libya’s legitimate government.
African countries have split on whether to recognize the Libyan rebels. Some, like Nigeria, have explicitly endorsed the TNC, while many others have either been silent or stopped short of recognition.
On Monday, the head of the African Union Commission said the AU would recognize the insurgents once they form an “inclusive government.”
Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe and Libya’s Colonel Gadhafi were close allies for many years, though they had a falling out in 2004 when Zimbabwe failed to pay for two-thirds of $360-million in fuel supplied by Libya’s state oil company.
Still, news outlets controlled by Mr. Mugabe’s ZANU-PF party, including Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation, have strongly criticized Western support for the rebels.
Mr. Mugabe recently said that while he did not support Colonel Gadhafi’s governance or his attacks on demonstrators in February, he believed the West is only interested in Libya for its oil.
Various news reports have mentioned Zimbabwe as a possible refuge for Colonel Gadhafi. But the MDC party, ZANU-PF’s partner in Zimbabwe’s coalition government, has said it would block any attempt to extend asylum to the Libyan leader.

The crowds who came to the heroes acre without the usual ZANU PF force tactics were a testimony that he was truly a hero to the nation.

The general perished in a horrific fire accident which left his body charred beyond recognition at his farm. The death of Mujuru has left a huge void in the unity of Zimbabwe. Speaking at the burial, the President of Zimbabwe Mr. Robert Mugabe chronicled the history of the liberation with reference to the work done by Mujuru who worked tirelessly to fight colonialism but at the same time fighting to unite ZANU PF and PF ZAPU.

Attending the burial were the Prime minister, his deputies and officials from Tanzania and other SADC countries. The president for the first time called for no violence among Zimbabweans. “let create peace in our country” he said after he called for tolerance and continuation of the peaceful atmosphere currently prevailing in the country.

As his body was lowered into the there was a 3-jet plane flypast by the air force of Zimbabwe and a 17 gun salute by the national army.
Afterwards all the dignitaries laid wreaths on the grave. It was one of the longest burial ceremonies for a hero in Zimbabwe.

Mr Mujuru was one of Zimbabwe’s most senior politicians and married to Vice-President Joyce Mujuru.

Analysts say his death is likely to intensify turmoil in President Robert Mugabe’s party over the question of who will succeed the 87-year-old leader.

Under his nom de guerre, Rex Nhongo, he was the director of Mr Mugabe’s forces during the 1970s’ war of independence.

An official source told the BBC Gen Mujuru died in a fire at his farmhouse in Beatrice, about 80km (50 miles) south of the capital, Harare, in the early hours of Tuesday.

It is unclear if he was alone at the time or if he was provided with security by the army.

President Mugabe is expected to deliver the official statement confirming the death of Gen Mujuru later in the day – in accordance with Zanu-PF party protocol.

The BBC’s Brian Hungwe in Harare says Gen Mujuru was a senior politburo member in the Zanu-PF party and regarded as a moderate.

He was a strategist and rumoured kingmaker in divisive Zanu-PF succession politics, he says.

His death will create a void and leave his wife – one of the country’s two vice-presidents – exposed, analysts say.

During the war against Rhodesian rule in the 1970s, Gen Mujuru led the armed struggle together with the late Josiah Tongogora.

Our reporter says it was Gen Mujuru who implored the freedom fighters in Mozambique during the conflict to accept Mr Mugabe as the leader of the Zanla rebel movement forces after his release from detention in 1974.

At independence in 1980 he took over the command of the army, before retiring and going into business 10 years later.

Our reporter says as the leading commander of the liberation war against colonial rule, he is expected to be buried at the national shrine, Heroes Acre, some time this week.

Speaking after the restoration of services on the website, Mr. Michael Masanga condemned the actions and indicated that this could be the work of elements bent on destroying the work of pro democracy movements in Zimbabwe. Zimwaves radio is known for promoting freedom of expression with a bias to African news in general and Zimbabwean news in particular. Protest music is seldom played on FM radios and never played on Zimbabwe state radios. Zimwaves Radio has been playing this music since its inception in 2010.

We will not stop playing protest music and will certainly not stop reporting the truth just because a sick mind hacked our website” said a fuming Mr. Masanga who was visibly angry with the hack. The zimwaves first page had the article article below. It is not clear however who hacked the website.
